The U12 Whites played Herts Girls Blacks in the quarterfinals of the league cup this week
By Simon Gooderham
It was a strong performance from the Belles in tough conditions.
On a cold and snowy Saturday morning. We played 7 vs 7 as Herts Girls only had 7 players available due to injury.
After some choice words aimed at Jez, the girls stared the match on the front foot dominating possession. Our stand in keeper, Bethia Mitchell, didn’t have much to do for long periods of time thanks to some strong defensive play from Aimee Levy, Layla Wilkes-Gibbs and Lois McSorley. Layla was instrumental in the attacking play as well making surging runs down the wing and getting some great through balls to the attacking players resulting in a goal after 11 minuets from Betty O’Sullivan. A couple of substitutions led to more attacking play from the Belles and Ruby Clulow had a goal disallowed for offside after 20 mins but 5 minuets later she got her reward with a brilliant solo effort run through the Herts Girls defense and slotting it home.
Second half Layla got an early goal to keep the momentum going but Herts Girls started to get a foothold in the game and had a few attempts on goal but, even though she was an ice statue by this point, Bethia rose to occasion and made some great saves. After 40 mins Helena Saul blasted home a top corner rocket to make it 4-0. 6 mins later a shot from Ella Vizard rebounded of the post for Ruby to tap home her second of the match.
POTM was Bethia Mitchell for stepping in to cover our injured keeper, and showing us what it means to be a team player and captain.
